why this drawing
On 5–10 June 1967 Israel captured the West Bank including East Jerusalem, Gaza, Sinai and the Golan; about 300,000 Palestinians were displaced, many for the second time, and the military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza began [1]. On 22 November 1967 the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 242, stressing the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war [2]. On 19 July 2024 the International Court of Justice found that Israel's continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territory is unlawful and must be ended as rapidly as possible [3].
Occupation is the word the UN, the Court and Israel's own courts use. Counting its years is not an opinion. In 2026 the count is fifty-nine. Each stroke is one year, drawn top to bottom; the fifth of each group is a full diagonal; the newest stroke is drawn twice. Nothing on the cloth but the marks and the date.
This is a yearly edition. Next year the open group gains its fifth stroke. We would like to stop adding strokes.
how it's made
Stanley/Stella Cruiser 2.0 (STSU177), 350 g/m², brushed inside, medium fit — a GOTS-certified organic cotton blank by Stanley/Stella, colour Natural Raw. Printed in the EU by DTG with one water-based ink, #4b463f, at 100 %; nothing thinner than 1.2 mm on fleece, no hatching. At about thirty reservations the drawing moves to a one-colour screen run from the ink-only master. Strokes 2.6 mm wide with 5 mm gaps — the most reliable print in the line.
